ART-DOLL CHRONICLE WORKSHOP

  • 10
This two day workshop introduced a wide range of traditional and contemporary doll making ideas, techniques and experiments. The dolls made were unique and personal. Using found materials, collage, fabric transfers, beading, appliqué and sculptural forms each doll reflected a particular theme ranged from sexuality, mothering, childhood memories and or mythic and power images. Participant doll makers become part of the Art Doll Chronicles Project. This project is based on a similar one initiated by Catherine Moore in the United States. Each ‘becoming’ doll traveled to each of the other doll makers intern to receive their contribution to ‘its’ growing personality. Accompanying each doll was a journal/chronicle of her exploits, the ideas each maker was inspired by and exploring…each chronicle become a work of art in itself.

ARTISTS BOOKS WORKSHOP

  • 107_0761
This two day workshop introduced students to a wide range of contemporary paper-craft and ‘alternative book-making’ ideas and techniques and gave them the opportunity to experiment with dozens of innovative approaches for creating unique art pieces, exploring collage and developing an artist journal. Comprehensive instructions covered the use of mixed media, collage, rubber stamping, embellishing, scrap-booking, collage, fabric transfers, beading, appliqué and devising sculptural forms within books, makeing each book unique and personal. This way of working is fun and at the same time offers insight and a channel into ones particular passions allowing them to develop and expand. No previous art making experience is necessary for the artists book workshop.

welcome to artmilk news (March 2005)

Hello...

I’d like to introduce my new business artmilk, and its accompanying artmilk website and artmilk newsletter to you. You can find the web site at artmilk.com.au, I hope you like it and find it a helpful adjunct to your interest in art. This newsletter will be published regularly and will contain information about up and coming artcourses, art tours, opportunities for artists, articles on art and creativity, and details of artist’s exhibitions.

My aims in teaching art have always been to make art fun easy and accessible for everybody who wants to have a creative life. I think of myself as an advisor and mentor on that journey. Part of my vision for artists is for them to have a sense of the community. So in the near future I intend to offer on artmilk artist’s web page facility where you can display your art works and artmilk can act as a publicity forum for you as an emerging artist. I intend to set up online forums for artists too, for artists to link up with others sort of an artists lounge bar…and share information and ideas. In the next newsletter when I’m more organized expect, articles, inspiring quotes, my life as an artist stories and much more.

Your responses ideas and feedback are very much appreciated. So please write and tell me what you think and what you would be interested in…oh and your images, writing – (yes some artists write!!), are very welcome.

Majena Mafe
